- Upanayana, also known as yagnopavit is a stage in a child’s life when adulthood begins after the age of 8 years.
- The word ‘Upa’ in sanskrit is used to denote moving closer to something. In this case moving closer to realising god
- The child is taught the Gayatri Mantra. Goddess Gayatri, who is considered the mother of the vedas is pleased through this ritual
- Sandhyavandanam is a ritual performed at the transition moments or twilight between day and night, particularly by those initiated through the Upanayana samskara.
