Karpuram (also known as camphor or karpoor) is an important element used in sanatana dhamra. It is a white crystalline substance with a strong, pungent odor that has unique spiritual properties. Fire lighted with pure camphor has the ability to capture positive aura and transfer it to others. Hence it is commonly used in aarthi at temples and during pujas.
Camphor also burns without leaving any residue and has the ability to create a purifying atmosphere. It is also used in suddhi and to remove any drusthi doshas etc..
