Copper is specifically used in pujas for its unique properties. Copper is considered to be a conductor of divine energy. It has the ability to absorb and transmit the energy and vibrations of the surrounding environment. During Kalasha puja, waters of sacred rivers are concecrated which is then used for suddhi (aura cleansing) and other aspects of the puja. The kalasam is filled with water, flowers, sandalwood paste, turmeric, and other auspicious items, and is worshipped as a representation of the divine energy. The kalasam becomes a center of purity, energy and auspiciousness which then helps the doer to set up the mandapa and perform various pujas, vratas and devata aavahanas (invitations).
