Preparation

The plot is cleaned and levelled, and the north-east (Ishanya) corner is identified. A clean spot is arranged with the kalasham and deities. Karishye’s purohit brings the prescribed samagri, including the copper shanku and silver naga.

Step by Step

How Shankusthapana is performed

Achamana & Sankalpa

Self-purification and a vow stating the owner’s name, gotram, the site and purpose.

Ganapati Puja

Worship of Lord Ganesha first, to remove obstacles.

Punyahavachanam & Kalasha

Purification and kalasha worship invoking the deities and the Panchabhootas.

Vastu Purusha worship

Vastu Purusha is drawn (often with rice paste) and worshipped with Vastu mantras.

Bhumi Devi and the silver naga are worshipped and the shanku is consecrated.

Shanku & Naga sthapana

First digging / first brick

The first earth is turned or the first brick laid at the auspicious spot, with mantras.
