Saffron (Kesar / Kumkumapuvvu) is one of the most auspicious ingredients used in puja. It is mixed with sandalwood paste to make a tilak applied on the deity or devotee, believed to activate the third-eye chakra and awaken divine consciousness. Saffron is also added to prasadam distributed after the puja, believed to purify the mind and body and remove negativity.
