Toor dal in Telugu is kandi pappu (కంది పప్పు). It is the split, de-husked pigeon pea – also called red gram dal, arhar or tuvar dal in Hindi, thuvaram paruppu in Tamil and togari bele in Kannada. The whole, unsplit seed is kandulu.
