Pasupu (పసుపు) is turmeric powder – haldi in Hindi. It is in every Telugu puja: for making pasupu Ganapati and Gowri, for the threshold, for tamboolam and for sumangali offerings.
How pasupu is used
-
Pasupu Ganapati and Gowri – shaped from pasupu mixed with a little water.
-
Gadapa (threshold) – applied to the doorway on festivals and at gruhapravesham.
-
Vayanam and tamboolam – pasupu and kumkuma given to sumangalis.
-
Akshintalu – rice mixed with a little pasupu.
For the whole roots used in kankanam and for grinding fresh pasupu, see pasupu kommulu.
