A matti munta (మట్టి ముంత) is a small, unglazed clay pot, handmade from natural clay.
How it is used
-
In the puja – to hold water, milk or curd, and as an earthen kalasam where the family keeps one.
-
Sankranti – for cooking pongali in a new pot.
-
At home – for drinking water or setting curd.
First use: soak the new pot in water for a few hours and let it dry. This seasons the clay and reduces seepage. Wash with plain water – no soap.
