A darbha chapa (దర్భ చాప) is a mat woven from darbha (kusha) grass, used as an asanam – the seat for sandhyavandanam, japa, homam and tarpanam. Sitting on darbha rather than directly on the floor is the traditional practice for these rites.
Who uses it
-
Daily sandhyavandanam and japa – a personal asanam kept only for this.
-
Homams and tarpanam – for the karta (the person doing the rite).
Care: keep it dry and rolled when not in use; darbha becomes brittle if left in the sun or damp.
