The Annual Rite

What is Aabdhikam (Taddinam)?

Aabdhikam — known in Telugu as Taddinam (తద్దినం) — is the shraddha performed every year on the death anniversary of a departed parent or forebear, on their lunar tithi. After the first year, it becomes the annual remembrance through which the family continues to honour and nourish the ancestor, year after year, for life.

Observed Each Year

How Aabdhikam works

On the tithi

Performed each year on the departed’s lunar tithi, fixed by the panchangam.

For each parent

A separate taddinam is observed for father and for mother, on their own tithis.

Lifelong duty

Continued every year by the son or eligible family member.

Tarpanam & pinda

Offered with the same reverence as the earlier rites.

Why It Continues

Honouring the ancestors

The yearly Aabdhikam keeps the bond between the living and the ancestors alive. It is believed to bring the blessings of the Pitrus — pitru anugraham — and wellbeing to the family, while fulfilling a lasting dharmic duty. Karishye helps you observe it on the correct tithi every year.
